I was just getting out of bed to start a lazy day of relaxing when we got a callout for a lost hiker near Palm View Peak along the Pacific Crest Trail. After speaking with the subject, she had hiked up Pyramid Peak and then bushwhacked to the summit of Palm View Peak. She attempted to take a shortcut and ended up going down the canyon that comes off the north side of the peak. She spent 20 hours trying to rescue herself before activating her Garmin InReach.
Wayne, Dave Kosmal, and I started the hike up from Fobes Ranch to access the canyon that our subject was in. We hiked up about 2 miles when Rescue 9 came overhead. Rescue 9 was able to hoist the subject out of the canyon and return her to the Mountain Station near Lake Hemet. Our team hiked back down the trail and I went back to my day of relaxation.
