On Friday, October 10th, RMRU received a request from the Riverside Sheriff Office (RSO) to assist in a search for additional human remains in the San Jacinto River just east of the Cranston Fire Station. A group of anthropology students on an outing from the University of California had come upon bones the previous day which were confirmed by the Riverside Coroner’s Office to be human.

On Saturday October 11th RMRU members met up with a dog team from the Riverside County Search Dogs and conducted an area search of the area within a quarter mile of the point where the human remains were found. This distance was chosen as the most likely area where remains can be spread by animal activity. Deputies and Investigators from the RSO Hemet Station assisted. One additional clue was found and the search concluded with the coroner’s representatives being comfortable with the efforts by all involved.

Subsequent follow-up by the Coroner’s Office confirmed the bones were from an individual whose remains had been found in the same area in 2022.
