The team was called out on Thursday at 2 PM to search for a missing 75-year-old woman with possible early onset dementia. She was reported missing Tuesday morning and her car was found stuck on a rock on Thursday afternoon in the Pinyon Pines area.

We reported to the Pinion Pines fire department as our basecamp. Teams were sent out on multiple trails that were near the car as well as the road the car was found on.

Desert Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (DSSAR) personnel were also on scene and were deployed to the area. Our subject was reported to having trouble walking without her cane which was at home. The area around the car is extremely rocky and rugged so it would have been impossible for her to get too far away.

We continued the search the next morning with search dogs, sheriff’s helicopter Star 9, DSSAR, Joshua Tree Search and Rescue (JOSAR) and RMRU. We did a much more intensive search radiating out from the car with no success.
