We received a call for an exhausted hiker in the Tenaja Falls area while in the midst of a daytime helitac (helicopter rescue tactics) training with the Sheriff’s new helicopter, Rescue 9. Corey and I grabbed our gear and boarded Rescue 9 for a quick flight toward the trailhead and proceeded to fly down canyon following the main trail, looking for the subject. We spotted the subject moving slowly up the trail with assistance from three other hikers.
They were near the trailhead where Sheriff’s deputies were waiting. The deputies began hiking down to meet the subject while we circled overhead. The deputies reached the subject and indicated they wouldn’t require further assistance so we returned to Hemet Ryan Airport to resume our helitac training.
