On Thursday, July 15th, 17-year-old Norma Lopez was abducted from a dirt field which served as a short-cut on her walk home from summer school. Moreno Valley Police immediately launched a large search for her.

Late on Saturday, July 17th, RMRU was asked to report for a 5:30 a.m. start the following day to join in the search which included numerous horses, dog teams, and ground searchers. With RMRU's Gwenda Yates running plans, seven RMRU members completed three field assignments in the 100+ degree heat, the last two working with our sister team Desert Sheriff's Search and Rescue.

Tragically, late on Tuesday, July 20th, Norma's body was located a few miles from where she was abducted. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Norma's family and many friends.

RMRU Members present: Paul Caraher, Carlos Carter, Michael Goerge, Lew Kingman, Roger May, Patrick McCurdy, and Gwenda Yates.
