RMRU was called out to assist the San Diego Sheriff's Department with a search for Carl Salayer in Ramona. Mr. Salayer suffered from Alzheimer and Parkinson's and had been missing since yesterday morning. I arrived on scene with fellow RMRU member Cameron. We both were assigned with a couple of San Diego Search and Rescue members. We proceeded to search a rural residential area, knocking on doors and getting permission to search the land owner’s property.

In one field I ran across a few leg hold animal traps. These are the classic "Bear Trap" design, were you step in them and they snap closed, but sized for smaller game. I warned the rest of the team to be careful where they step. We covered about half our area before lunch. After lunch our San Diego team members were replaced with two new members. We headed back out and search our remaining area and found no sign of Mr. Salayer.

By this time RMRU member Lew had also arrived on scene and was out searching with 3 Border Patrol members around properties that sometimes contained electrified wire. Lew and Cameron stayed until late that evening searching various wilderness areas. All 3 of us noted how many of the homes we went to knew Mr. Salayer indicating how close this community was.

June 19, 2014 Lew spent the night in his truck and assisted with the search all day contacting homeowners and searching their property. No signs of the subject were found.

June 20, 2014 I met with Cameron again at the command post. We were sent off with a former sheriff's deputy to investigate reports of coyotes, dogs and peacocks "Going wild" last night near the Ramona Grasslands Preserve. We didn't get an exact address and had to hunt around for the peacock house. We spoke with a couple of the property owners in the area and they mentioned that this was a normal occurrence. The Ramona Grasslands is a large area and if it was going to be searched would require more personal. We went back to the command post and reported what we found before leaving for the night.

On June 25, 2014 the body of Carl Salayer was found approximately 1/2 mile from his home. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.

RMRU Members Involved: Cameron Dickinson, Eric Holden, and Lew Kingman.
