On January 7th, 2025, RMRU was called upon to assist President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden’s visit to the newly established national monument, Chuckwalla.

RMRU members Richard Yocum, Eric Holden, Jeff Leisner, and Trygve Anderson attended a joint briefing at Thermal Sheriff Station by the United States Secret Service and Riverside Sheriff’s Office on the details of the President’s trip. RMRU was stationed at Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport to assist with helicopter aid to any officers injured while securing the canyons around where the President was to speak and bless the monument.

Inclement weather and high winds delayed the President and ultimately led to the cancellation of the event. RMRU remained at the helicopter hangar until all officers were able to leave the field safely.
