RMRU was requested by the Redland Police Department to assist in the search for a missing married couple in their 70’s. The couple were last seen at their residence in their RV park about 10 am on 8/24/2024 and then reported missing by a neighbor when they did not attend church the following morning and their vehicle was found about ½ mile down the road. The RV Park is in San Bernardino County, but the vehicle was found in Riverside County. The husband was reported to have dementia and diabetes and the wife a mobility issue possibly due to multiple sclerosis. Their small white Shih Tzu dog was also missing. Our assignment was to look for any sign that the couple had walked away from where their vehicle was left.
After a 6:00 am briefing, we quickly developed our search strategy. With Eric and Andy on one field team, Glenn, and Tobias on the other, and me running base, we covered a large area over about a 3-hour period. Our search area was confined to Riverside County, and we did not enter the RV Park, which was in San Bernardino County. We found no sign of the couple or their dog and departed the scene.
Several hours later we learned through active media reports that a resident of the RV park had identi-fied a suspect in the park to law enforcement, the park was locked down, and a SWAT team was called in and began to breach the structure next door to where the missing couple lived. Many hours later it was reported that the occupant of that structure was found in a subterranean bunker and arrested, and two bodies were found.
RMRU sends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the missing couple.
